Department of Botany is the oldest department in S.P. College  establised in 1912 and having completed 110 years of its service to the society. I feel honoured to be the present Head of this prestigeous Department which has been headed by noted academicians and researchers like T.N. Dhar, S.K. Koul, C.L. Raina, K.L. Razdan, B.N. Koul, S.N. Tiku, D.P. Zutshi, Sauleh Mustafa, N.A. Mufti, A.U. Khan, M.Y. Khan, Qazi Yahya,  Imtiyaz Hussain, Dr. Zubaida Bhat and Dr. Wilayat Rizvi

I will leave no stone unturned in taking the department under global radar and focus on improving academic standards. Research, innovation and publications will be further encouraged and infrastructure will be expanded in phased manner. I assure all the stakeholders that my focus will be on imparting quality education and development of conceptural learning mechanisms. Wie will provide ample opertunity to the enrolled students to join Skill Based Training Programmes organised by the department during every academic calender to enhance employability.We have installed three smart boards in the department and established one state of art smart classroom for the conduct seminars and presentations. Besides, we have augmented labs with latest digital microscopes, research microscopes and other equipment to facilitate the enrolled students learning by doning. Presently our focus is on re-establishment of herbal garden and Botanical garden and intallation of high tech green house in the Botanical garden. Increase in green area and establishment of ecofriendly energy harvesting infrastructure within the campus will be also be taken up on priority basis and landscaping of lawns of parks will be enhanced further to make the campus beautiful, green and clean.
